Shaping Career Pathways II: Entrepreneur, Content Creator & Artist

Today, we’ll look at some of the highly requested less technical careers.

1.Entrepreneur

This refers to someone who starts their own venture for the purpose of making a profit or delivering social impact. Most entrepreneurs are business owners or champions of non-governmental organisations that deliver social good.

There are several school and online programs that teach entrepreneurship and help individuals validate products and prepare for market launch. They also try to paint a picture of your likely journey as an entrepreneur and share some notes as to how you can counter possible challenges you’ll face along the way.

While this is a good starting point, the best way to learn entrepreneurship is by becoming one. Regardless of your age, background or experience; start something. Sell some sweets, wash cars for a fee or design and sell your own branded apparel.

Whatever it is, do it now and in the real world to gain a full appreciation of a sales, marketing, finance and recruitment cycle. Despite having some similarities, every entrepreneurial journey is inherently unique and demanding.

Developing an appetite for risk early will set you up for sustainable success.

2.Content Creator

In this day and age, most content creators are entrepreneurs. Both career paths share principles of success.

If you want to become a filmmaker, tik-toker, blogger, author, graphic designer or anything else; the best time to start was yesterday, and the second best time is today.

Even if you don’t own dedicated camera equipment, use a smartphone. Borrow it if you must. Maybe your writing still needs a lot to be desired, write some more.

The more you put your ideas into practice and get comfortable with creating content and putting it in front of an audience, the better you’ll become at it over time. No one started great, but consistency and continuous improvement sharpened their skills.

3.Artist

Whether you’re a musician, painter or interested in any other form of art, chances are you’ve dozens of lyrics or sketches in your personal space already.

Your highly probable challenge is putting it out there and getting support for it. Well, the secret is doing just that.

Constantly ask your trusted circles for feedback on your creations, back yourself to succeed, don’t stop believing especially when the road gets tough and criticism starts flying in. Because it will.

Until you start putting your work in and assuming an entrepreneurial role to get some traction on your art, it will likely remain a hobby for the rest of your life.

Create, hustle, improve and hustle some more.

On that journey

As you embark on your journey to become a successful entrepreneur, content creator or artist, it’s important that you immerse yourself into a network of like minded people for support.

Having a mentor, and or peers to help you on that journey is highly critical for success.
